Christmas

“UGH…. not another writing assignment!” was what was going through my mind when my teacher assigned us an essay about our winter break; well I had the busiest winter “break” that’s a way to put it. Anyways let’s start off the day of Christmas Eve, Dec. 24th. I had to pack everything from pajamas to on-the- go snacks; we took off to pick up my mom from work. The minute she hopped on the car, my dad asked if we had frogotten to pack anything, because this was the last chance to go back and get it. Luckily we hadn’t forgotten anything, so we were on our way to Fresno[a 5 hour trip]. It had een about 1 hour and 30 minutes when my dadtold me to look out the window, Six Flags: Magic Mountain [an amusement park] was right in front of us. My little sister, a green eyed, golden hair with blond highlights, slim, little 3 year old girl, started crying because she wanted to go to Six Flags, but my dad told her he was going to buy her, her own amusement park[ yeah right], that sure got her to be quiet. The second time I looked out the window was when was about 45 mins. later, and the mountains were so beautiful they made me want to dash out ofthe car and relax under the shade of an enormous tree and watch the birds fly with the wind. I didn’t fall asleep or anything I was just too busy eating hot cheetos[spicy chips], to look out the window. We made a pit stop, to eat at Burger King[ a fast food hamburger restaurant]. after 1 hour my uncle called and gave my dad directions the rest of the way until we met him at a gas station. When we finally got to his house the first thing I did was say hi to everyone. The house, well apartment, had two room, both very big and spacious; The walla were a peachish tan color and the Christmas tree was unique with golden and silver decorations and precious shinig lights. the kitchen was organized and the walls were made out of white tile detailed with brown paint that made it look antique. angainst the walls were cook books and spices of all kind. My little cousin, a 3 year old, slim, brown eyed, girl with straight jet black hair that fell to her elbows, surprised me when she came towards me and gave me a squeeze [ a hug]. i carried her and ran around the house saying “They’re going to smash us!” which sounded more like “Deyre gonna mashush!” We ate Tamales for dinner “Tamale” is chicken or meat & veggies inside soft dough calld “masa”. We listened to music and talked to each other the rest of the time until 12. At 12 sharp we wished each other Merry Christmas and we opened presents. The next day we ate tamales[again] for breakfast and left after that. That’s where our Christmas ended.

                                   New Year’s

New Year’s was boring the only thing we did was eat and listen to music. We ate fried chicken, salad, and pozole. Pozole is a kind of soup made out of corn, meat, and vegetales. We ended the night eating 12 grapes. Each grape stands for 1 month; for each month we wish something different[like happiness, love, or health]. So yeah, truly my winter break was full of love and funny moments, like my sister crying for Six Flags.

Today I am going to talk about what my family does on: Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year, and on birthdays.

For instance, on birthdays we have parties with piñatas, chicken sandwiches, and a bunch of games. Freeze Dance, Cookie face, Pop the Balloons, and Music Chairs are the games we play. We get prizes if we win. The women make chicken sandwiches and get goodie bags after breaking the piñata.

On Thanksgiving my mom makes turkey and salad. And all my family gets together in someone’s house. We drink cider and we listen to music all night long.

Christmas is a great at my house. My family makes a big BBQ. The day after I am the first one to wake up and open my presents. New Years is practically the same as Christmas.

So that’s what my family does throughout the year every year.
